"Out on a Limb"
Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay, carved by glaciers thousands of years ago, is nestled against the west shore of the lake. Rising 150 feet above the water's surface is a granite, brush-covered mound known as Fannette Island. Over the past 100 years, this little jewel in the bay has been called Coquette, Baranoff, Dead Man's, Hermit's, and Fannette Island, as well as Emerald Isle.
This photograph was taken on a crisp winter day in South Lake Tahoe. The bleached, snow-worn branches are a dramatic textural contrast to the rough bark on the tree, which frames a vivid Emerald Bay and Fannette Island.
