"Fire in the Hole"
Pfeiffer Beach can be found at the heart of Big Sur, California. Open all year, this beautiful beach is popular and prized by locals as well as the thousands of visitors it receives.
This photograph captures the intensely warming light at the end of a fogless autumn day. As the sun sets at this location, there is usually a stunning beam of light shooting through the "window" of the rock wall. However, on this day, at the end of sunset, the beam had changed to an incendiary glow that set fire to the sea spray and sparked the turbulent surf of this rocky seascape.
